Cocktail (2012) remains one of Bollywood’s most loved romantic comedies, and now, more than a decade later, the film is officially turning into a franchise. Producer Dinesh Vijan has joined hands with filmmaker Luv Ranjan to bring a sequel to life, with Homi Adajania returning to the director’s chair.
As per media reports, Cocktail 2 is scheduled to go on floors in August 2025, with filming to take place across India and European destinations. The film will supposedly wrap the shoot by January 2026. The sequel will feature Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, forming a fresh trio for the franchise. While Shahid and Kriti reunite after their successful pairing in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Rashmika joins them as the parallel lead.
Before stepping into Cocktail 2, Shahid has completed Vishal Bharadwaj’s O Romeo, Kriti Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush, and Rashmika has wrapped Thama with Ayushmann Khurrana.
Interestingly, while Imtiaz Ali was associated with the first film as its writer, this time the story has been penned by Luv Ranjan, known for his sharp yet light-hearted narratives. His touch promises a blend of humour, emotion, and modern-day romance. The makers are planning the theatrical release in mid-2026.
The original Cocktail featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty. The film had a refreshing story of friendship and love, it gave audiences unforgettable performances, especially Deepika’s bold and layered portrayal of Veronica, and a soundtrack that still resonates. Recently, the film was even re-released in theatres on May 30, 2024.
Homi Adajania has also posted some glimpses from Cocktail 2. He shared behind-the-scenes shots from the set, with Shahid, Kriti, and Rashmika on social media. Kriti even called it a “liberating journey,” hinting at the depth of her role. Maddock Films is producing the project with a new trio that is stepping in.
