Diljit Dosanjh has added another feather to his cap with an International Emmy nomination for his performance in Amar Singh Chamkila. The actor-singer earned a nod in the Best Performance by an Actor category for playing the Punjabi folk legend in Imtiaz Ali’s acclaimed Netflix biopic.
The announcement came on Thursday, September 25, when the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences revealed this year’s list of contenders in New York.
The film itself has also been recognised, emerging as the sole Indian entry at the International Emmys 2025. Produced by Window Seat Films, Amar Singh Chamkila has secured a nomination in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category.
The biopic, which was released on Netflix in April 2024, traces the life and death of Chamkila, often hailed as the ‘Elvis of Punjab’, who was shot down in 1988 along with his wife and singing Amarjot, played by Parineeti Chopra.
In the best actor race, Dosanjh finds himself in a global company. He will be competing with David Mitchell for Ludwig (United Kingdom), Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto (Spain), and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude (Colombia). Meanwhile, Amar Singh Chamkila will vie for top honours alongside Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb (Germany), Lost Boys & Fairies (United Kingdom) and Vencer o Morir (Chile).
The winners will be announced at the 53rd International Emmy Awards gala in New York City on November 24. This year’s nominations span 64 projects across 16 categories, representing a record 26 countries, including Argentina, Japan, South Korea, France, Brazil, South Africa, and India.
Expressing his gratitude after the announcement, Dosanjh shared on Instagram Story and dedicated his achievement to director Imtiaz Ali and Netflix India. Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali also celebrated the moment, expressing his pride and calling Diljit “so well deserved”.
India has previously made its mark at the International Emmys with Delhi Crime winning Best Drama in 2020 and Vir Das clinching Best Comedy in 2021. If Dosanjh gets the award, he will be adding another milestone to Indian cinema on the global stage.
