The much-awaited prequel of Rishab Shetty, Kantara: A Legend— Chapter 1, has been released, with its trailer dropped on Monday. The trailer was released across Hombale Films’ official social media platforms, including Instagram, X, and YouTube, and immediately ignited a storm of reactions.
The film is written and directed by Rishab Shetty. The prequel takes audiences back in time to explore the folklore, faith, and ancestral legends that shaped the universe of the first film.
The trailer begins with a young boy asking about the mysterious disappearance of his father. On that note, it expands into the saga of his forefathers, men who challenged injustice with divine guidance. Actor Gulshan Devaiah portrays a ruthless prince, while Rukmini Vasanth’s role as a princess adds a dramatic layer of romance and resilience.
The climax teases Rishab Shetty’s character experiencing the power of Daiva Kola possession for the very first time, setting the stage for a gripping narrative.
The launch received a boost when stars like Hrithik Roshan, Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Sivakarthikeyan extended their support nationwide.
Kantara is backed by producers Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda. The film also brings back music composer B Ajaneesh Loknath, whose score for the original has remained etched in the audience’s memory since Kantara was released. The prequel will be released in multiple languages, such as Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, across India and abroad.
Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 weaves mythology and culture together, drawing from the Daiva Kola and Bhuta Kola traditions. The film has become one of the year’s most anticipated cinematic experiences for its stunning visuals and profound spiritual message.
Building on the success of the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which brought in about ₹407.82 Cr worldwide, the movie is scheduled for release on October 2, 2025.
