A campaign named ‘War on Drugs’ was relaunched in the state of Punjab on 25 February, 2025, under the directions of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. This initiative aims to make the state completely drug-free. Punjab Police has been taking high-stake efforts to tackle the crisis of ongoing drug abuse and trafficking.

Important data has been shared by Punjab Police through a social media post. According to the post shared by Punjab Police on their official X account, a total of 20,410 drug smugglers have been arrested as of day 125 of the currently running campaign, which began on 1 March 2025. As the war against drugs intensified, so did the police’s operations against narcotics to protect the state.
The campaign is viewed as a high-impact operation to tackle the ongoing crisis of drug abuse and trafficking that has run for decades and has caused large-scale harm to Punjab’s youth and society.
The first phase of the campaign has been more focused on arresting the drug peddlers; this has been possible due to advanced technologies such as GPS and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The technology has helped the Punjab Police to crack down on any drug-related offences and aids in the recovery of these banned substances.
The DGP Punjab Police has shared the details about an intelligence operation which was carried out under the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign through a post on his official X account. A major intelligence-led operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence, Amritsar. Police achieved success in busting a drug-smuggling module and arresting four culprits. According to a preliminary investigation, the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistani smuggler.
Police have seized 5kg of heroin, a four-wheeler, and a two-wheeler used by the culprits in committing the crime. An FIR regarding the case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, and further investigation is in progress to expose the wider nexus, both upstream and downstream.
Another case has come to light in a post shared by Pathankot Police on their official X account. According to the officials, they have succeeded in arresting two drug dealers under the ongoing campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’. Pathankot Police have recovered 23.25 grams of heroin from the possession of the accused. According to them, they remain committed to making Punjab a drug-free society.

According to the police, an awareness seminar was held at Government Senior Secondary School, Lambra, by the Jalandhar Rural Police. The seminar was part of an initiative under the ongoing ‘War on Drugs’ or ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, which aims to make Punjab a drug-free state. The motive behind conducting the seminar was to spread awareness and knowledge about drugs and their harmful effects.
