A 28-year-old woman, Nikki Bhati, was set on fire in Greater Noida at her in-laws’ home on August 21 over the conflict of dowry pressure, objection to her making reels on Instagram, and willingness to reopen a beauty parlour that she used to run with her sister, police said after interrogating her husband, Vipin Bhati, on Sunday.
Nikki Bhati was beaten and set on fire alive by her husband, Vipin Bhati, and her in-laws in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village on August 21, 2025.
This terrible incident took place on August 21, 2025, when 28-year-old Nikki Bhati was assaulted and killed over dowry pressure. Nikki’s son’s statements went viral on social media, revealing how the accused, Vipin Bhati, assaulted her and set her on fire.
In the viral videos, a man was seen brutally pouring a liquid on Nikki. In another, Vipin was seen assaulting her brutally. A third video showed Nikki, severely burnt, walking down a staircase before falling.
Nikki’s minor son has told the reporters that his father (Vipin Bhati) poured a liquid on Nikki, slapped her, and set her on fire with a lighter. Her elder sister Kanchan, who is married into the same family and witnessed the incident, told reporters that Nikki was assaulted, allegedly in front of her minor son. She also told police that Nikki was allegedly doused with an explosive liquid and set on fire.
Following the case, four people have been arrested for their connection with the case, including Nikki Bhati’s husband (Vipin Bhati), mother-in-law (Daya Bhati), father-in-law (Satveer Bhati), and brother-in-law (Rohit Bhati), who was married to her own sister Kanchan.
Vipin Bhati was arrested on Saturday and shot in the leg as he attempted to escape from police custody. His mother, Daya, was also arrested the same day. Police said Vipin had snatched a sub-inspector’s gun and fired at officers, prompting police to retaliate.
Along with Vipin and his mother Daya, accused father-in-law Satveer Bhati and brother-in-law Rohit Bhati were also arrested by Kasna Police near Sirsa Toll Chauraha, the police said in a statement.
A case has been registered against the four at Kasna Police Station on August 22 under sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 61(2) (attempting to commit offences punishable with life imprisonment or others) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A total of four family members have now been arrested for murder, conspiracy, and assault under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. But the public wants more of an example made out of this brutal killing, while protesting in front of Kasna Police Station.
