Google has taken a new leap towards the future of digital interactions through the discovery of “Beam” at the annual I/O, a revolutionary 3D video calling platform designed to transform the 2D barrier of virtual meetings. Titling it as “Project Starline,” Beam promises to make remote conversations feel more real, as though the other person is truly in the same room.
How does it work?
For those who are curious, Beam uses a “state-of-the-art AI volumetric video model” to create magical experiences that transform 2D interactions to 3D. Many a times It’s hard to read one’s expression when talking virtually on calls or text but with this innovation, we can easily find out the their’s emotions and For those lovebirds out there, this is just the tool to get your hands on, engaging in natural eye contact and interaction directly all without the need of a VR headset.
Apart from this, Beam mainly uses a six-camera array and a custom light field display that helps in tracking head movements with precision and streaming video at a fluid 60 frames per second. Beam also intends to collaborate with other platforms like Google Meet and Zoom to create AI-powered speech translations that make it possible to mimic the speaker’s expressions, tone and voice.
Redifining connection : From prototype to market
In the advancements towards making an out-of-world experience in the digital world, Google is partnering with HP, with the first Beam devices for early adopters like Salesforce, Citadel, NEC, Deloitte, and Duolingo later this year.
