Siraj Shines, India Win Despite Brook & Root’s Tons

Harry Brook and Joe Root slammed tons to keep England in a high-octane 374-run chase. But it was a miraculous bowling effort by Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna that helped India script a memorable win to draw the series 2-2.

“Believe” this is what India thought of when India took the wicket of the dangerous Joe Root to reduce England to 337/6 with 37 only to defend and 6 wickets away from scripting an unbelievable win. Guess what, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna did it for India. The visitors got a come-from-behind 6-run victory over England at The Oval to draw the first-ever Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on a 2-2 scoreline.

England went into rampant mode when Harry Brook and Joe Root slammed tons and forged a mammoth 195-run partnership. The stand helped England dominate the game for the majority of the innings, but a wicket was taken miraculously by Akash Deep, of Harry Brook breathed some life into India in the defence of 73 more runs. When Prasidh Krishna took the wicket of Joe Root, India had a little chance of defending the total. Thanks to the bad light, which led to the early end of day 4.

When day 5 started, India only had 35 runs to defend with England having 4 wickets in hand. It was Mohammad Siraj who took out the England keeper-batter Jamie Smith early as he edged the ball while placing it towards the covers. This was followed by the wicket of Jamie Overton, who was trapped leg before by Siraj again.

When Prasidh Krishna cleaned up Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes came out to bat despite having a belt on his dislocated left shoulder, like a warrior. Gus Atkinson tried his best to score as many runs as he could, but a beaming inswinging yorker by Mohammad Siraj rattled the off stump from the bottom, which became one of the most memorable moments for India on this tour.
