Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took on X (formerly Twitter) to criticise Donald Trump, President of the USA, and his recent comments regarding India-Pakistan tensions and offered a detailed pointer analysis as to why the remarks were “deeply disappointing”.
Trump recently claimed to use trade as a leverage to ease India–Pakistan tension, post this, Shashi Tharoor criticised Trump based on his statement. The US President claimed that he pressured both countries into agreeing to a ceasefire by threatening to withhold trade opportunities.

While many leaders of the opposition have questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not acknowledge US President Donald Trump’s involvement in the ceasefire.
In his tweet, Shashi Tharoor stated 4 reasons as to why he found Trump’s words offensive –
“First, it implies a false equivalence between the victim and the perpetrator, and seemingly overlooks the US’ own past unwavering stance against Pakistan’s well-documented links to cross-border terrorism.”
“Second, it offers Pakistan a negotiating framework which it certainly has not earned. India will never negotiate with a terrorist gun pointed at its head.”
“Third, it “internationalises” the Kashmir dispute, an obvious objective of the terrorists. India rejects the idea of a dispute and sees the problem as an internal affair of India’s. India has never requested, not is likely to seek, any foreign country’s mediation over its problems with Pakistan.”
“And fourth, it “re-hyphenates” India and Pakistan in the global imagination.”
On Saturday, both India and Pakistan agreed upon a ceasefire following the escalated conflicts that resulted from the terror attack that took the lives of 26 people. As per the officials, the ceasefire resulted from communication between India and Pakistan’s officials, and neither acknowledged the involvement of the USA.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in a very emotional speech on Operation Sindoor and how terrorism will not be tolerated anymore, and any such actions will be met with serious consequences.
