On Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) severely criticized Congress and the INDIA bloc in the wake of remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. At a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra accused the Congress of lowering political discourse and turning into what he described as a “gaali wali party.”

Patra said Congress has a long history of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling terms like “Maut ka Saudagar, Neech Aadmi, Naali ka Keeda, Cockroach, Virus” used over the years. He claimed Rahul Gandhi was continuing this tradition, going as far as addressing the Prime Minister as “tu” in his speeches during the Bihar yatra. “It is undignified and shameful,” Patra said, adding that in a democracy, people do not accept such language against an elected leader representing 140 crore citizens.

The BJP spokesperson also referred to earlier controversial remarks from Congress leaders, such as Sandeep Dixit’s 2017 comment against the late Army Chief Bipin Rawat. He alleged that Congress has consistently shown disrespect for institutions, citing its questioning of the Supreme Court’s verdicts and allegations of bias against the Election Commission. “Every day, the EC has to go through an agnipariksha because of unfounded allegations,” he remarked.

The issue escalated with a video clip from the Darbhanga leg of Gandhi’s yatra making the rounds on social media. The clip, which PTI could not independently verify, appeared to show unidentified individuals hurling abuses at Modi from a public stage. The BJP has blamed the Congress leadership for setting the tone of such speeches, alleging that Rahul Gandhi himself has encouraged this bitterness.

Patra further charged that the Congress, unable to return to power, has resorted to spreading hatred. “Rahul Gandhi is deriving sadistic pleasure by abusing the Prime Minister, but people are not enjoying it. Bihar will give a befitting reply,” he said. He also criticised the remarks made about Modi’s late mother, calling it a new low in political culture.

The BJP leader concluded that the Gandhi family continues to treat India as its “personal jhaagir” and warned that the Congress’s “shop of abuses” would be sealed, beginning from Bihar.

The Voter Adhikar Yatra, co-led by Priyanka Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav from RJD, was initiated from Darbhanga earlier this week, and it has already drawn strong political reactions across the state.
