Nepal Gen Z Protests: Bus Carrying Indian Tourists Attacked

A bus carrying 49 Indian tourists was attacked amid the ongoing Gen Z protests in Nepal. The protesters hurled stones at the bus, and the incident injured many passengers aboard, including women and senior citizens.

    Detailed Information:

A tourist bus from Andhra Pradesh was carrying Indian citizens and travelling to Nepal, where it was attacked by some protesters. The bus was targeted in Nepal amid the ongoing protests in the region. The tragic incident took place on 9 September near Uttar Pradesh’s Sonauli region on the India-Nepal border.

The tourist bus was carrying 49 Indian citizens. According to the officials, the protesters pelted stones at the bus, which injured many of the passengers, including senior citizens and women. The injured passengers were hospitalised in Kathmandu.

The tourists present in the bus were returning after offering prayers at Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath Temple. After their bus was attacked by a group of protesters, the tourists were flown back to India via a special plane that was arranged by the Indian Embassy with the assistance of the Nepalese Government.

The bus driver mentioned that while they were returning after having darshan at the Pashupatinath Temple, a mob surrounded the bus and attacked all of a sudden. According to him, the protesters continued attacking and did not stop despite the presence of women and elderly passengers on the bus.

    Ongoing Nepal’s Gen Z Protests:

After the government imposed a ban on 26 social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and YouTube, massive protests erupted across Nepal. Even when the ban from these platforms was revoked, the protests continued against the government. Following this, the Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli, was forced to resign.

Mostly, the youth who were carrying out the protests have recently proposed the dissolution of the Parliament and the amendment of the Constitution to ‘reflect the will of the people.’

Amid the rising tensions, temporary measures to facilitate the foreign nationals stranded in the nation were announced by the government of Nepal.

According to the announcement, the tourists whose visas were valid until 8 September can now obtain the permits for exit. They can get their visas regularised without paying any additional fees. This facility will remain open at the immigration offices as well as the departure points.
