K Kavitha Resigns From BRS After Suspension

A day after her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party MLC K Kavitha announced her resignation from both the organisation and her Legislative Council post on Wednesday. The move marks a dramatic turn in the political fortunes of the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who personally approved her suspension, citing “anti-party activities.”

Kavitha’s resignation was accompanied by sharp attacks on senior leaders within her extended family. She accused her cousin, former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, and ex-Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar of playing a key role in her ouster, alleging that they acted to safeguard their own political and financial interests.

Kavitha linked the two to irregularities in the multi-crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which is now under CBI investigation by the Congress government in Telangana.

The former Nizamabad MP argued that her public work over the past year, ranging from campaigning against the Congress to raising issues of reservations and community welfare, was wrongly labelled as disloyalty to the party.

She insisted that vested groups within the BRS had influenced her father, KCR, into turning against her. Appearing emotional at her press meet, Kavitha warned that what had happened to her could eventually affect other family members, including her brother and BRS working president KT Rama Rao.

She claimed the Congress government led by Revanth Reddy was selectively targeting KCR’s immediate family with cases, while sparing others in the party.

The suspension and subsequent resignation have deepened the visible rift within the Kalvakuntla family, once seen as the unshakable core of the BRS during its decade-long rule in Telangana.

While Kavitha ruled out joining any other party, she also did not announce immediate plans to float her own organisation, stating only that she had dedicated two decades of her life to Telangana and would continue to serve the people.
