    India Marks 11 Years of Digital Revolution with Landmark Tech Milestones

    On Thursday, 12th June, Narendra Modi shared the new achievement via X. In a post by MyGov India, they shared how India is on its way to becoming the world’s next tech powerhouse. “How India Is Powering the Next Global Digital Wave. From digital deserts to a data-driven democracy—India’s tech journey over the last 11 years is nothing short of revolutionary,” it said.

    For the past 11 years, there has been much emphasis on digitalising India with many initiatives launched under the Digital India Campaign. Commemorating 11 years of the Digital India Campaign, MyGov India took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the achievements.

    From just 0.93 crore transactions in 2017, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) has skyrocketed to 1,867.7 crore transactions, reflecting a phenomenal 2,500-fold increase in just a few years. Adding on it, over ₹260 lakh crore worth of transactions were processed in 2024-25 and handled almost 18,600 crore transactions annually.

    UPI is now accepted in more than 7 countries, including France, UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

    In 2025, there are more than 94 crore broadband connections with more than 120 crore telephone subscribers, and there has been a rise of over 10 per cent in tele-density since 2014.

    Bharat Net has connected over 2.18 lakh Gram Panchayats with 6.92 lakh km of Optical Fibre Cable being laid.

    While broadband connections and telephone subscribers have seen an increase of 4 times and 30 per cent respectively from 2014, AI centres are all ready to be set up. With three AI centres, indigenous foundational models like BharatGen, Sarvam-1, Chitralekha and Hanooman’s Everest 1.0 are being developed to create an AI-driven workforce ecosystem.

    Apart from all that, Research and Development has also been given utmost importance, with ₹6000 crore being allocated for the same. With a focus on developing intermediate-scale quantum computers and advanced quantum materials like superconductors, which is truly going to put India in the race to become a tech giant.

    Under Atmanirbhar Bharat, ISRO has been able to launch 393 foreign satellites, and is all prepared to establish Bharat Antariksh Station by 2035.

    India’s own semiconductors are the next feat achieved. Attracting 100 per cent foreign direct investments under the automatic route, the Semiconductor India Mission has approved 6 units worth ₹1.55 lakh crore.

    In another post talking about Drones, it said, “From empowering rural women as “Drone Didis” to strategic deployments in Operation Sindoor, Drones are taking India Higher!  Our self-reliance is soaring with 550+ Indian drone companies emerging, and 14,000+ SwaYaan beneficiaries ready to fly.”

    These data released by the Government of India showcase the development India has seen in the past 11 years, since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ascension.
