On Saturday, PM Narendra Modi addressed a large public gathering in Banouli village, located in Sewapuri, Varanasi. During his one-day visit to Varanasi, the PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 52 projects worth approximately Rs. 2,200 crore. At the event, he directly transferred Rs. 20,500 crore to the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore farmers as part of the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme.
During the event, a short film about the PM-KISAN scheme was shown, highlighting the program’s success and its impact on farmers. At the same time, PM appealed to traders and citizens across the country, mentioning that if India is to become the world’s third superpower, it must adopt Swadeshi (indigenous) products.
Invoking his development mantra, “the more backwards a region is, the more priority it will receive,” He mentioned the recently approved Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana. Rs. 24,000 crore will be spent on this scheme, which will mainly focus on backwards districts with low agricultural production and income. He also emphasised that the government is with the farmers “from seed to market.”
The following are the points that were also highlighted:
•Millions of crores of rupees are being invested in irrigation projects.
•To help the farmers in dealing with the weather challenges, over ₹1.75 lakh crore in claims have been disbursed under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PM Crop Insurance Scheme).
•There has been a record increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, especially for major ones like paddy and wheat.
•Thousands of new warehouses are being built to safely store agricultural produce.
In his address, he spoke in detail about global challenges, the need to adopt Swadeshi, and the prosperity of farmers. He also stated that he wanted to draw everyone’s attention to the global situation, stating that there is an atmosphere of instability in the world, with countries focusing on their interests.
PM Modi also stated that since India is on its way to becoming the world’s third-largest economy, it too must be vigilant about its economic interests. He also highlighted that the interests of India’s farmers, small industries, and the employment of its youth are paramount. While the government is making every effort in this direction, it mainly stressed that citizens also have certain responsibilities to fulfil.
