Gill, Rahul Initiates Comeback, But Is It Too Late?

Ben Stokes slammed a fabulous ton to take England’s score past 650. Shubman Gill & KL Rahul notched up an unbeaten 174-run stand after Chris Woakes eked out two batters in the first over. The match is likely to end in a draw.

The Indian team is known for making a comeback after falling behind, but it seems too late for them to push for a victory, as even after an unbeaten 174-run stand between the Indian batters, the favourable result for India in this fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is slowly fading away.

The day started with Ben Stokes completing a deserving Ton along with the lower order, assisting Stokes to add 125 runs to their overnight score and handing the hosts a 311-run lead as India finally bowled out England for a mammoth 669-run total just a few minutes before Lunch on Day 4.

The period between the end of England’s innings and the lunch break, which was barely 15 minutes, turned out to be a nightmare for the visitors as Chris Woakes brutally sent back Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan to the dressing room in the first over of India’s second innings. India’s score was 1/2 at lunch, identical to a normal football match scorecard.

But what happened after the lunch break was ground-breaking as India didn’t lose any wickets for the next two sessions as KL Rahul and Shubman Gill played with patience and grit to notch up 174 runs by the end of the day’s play, leaving India with only a 137-run deficit now heading towards the final day of this Test match.

With the final day coming and India still trailing by 137 runs, the match is surely heading towards a draw if India continues to bat in the same way as they were batting yesterday. Meanwhile, the Englishmen will look to take advantage of a Rishabh Pant-less Indian batting lineup, bowl them out early, and seal the series at Old Trafford itself.
