Early Morning Storm Leaves Delhi in Disarray

Early Friday’s stormy winds and heavy rains caused significant disruptions throughout the Delhi-NCR. Power lines snapped, trees were uprooted, there was a lot of waterlogging, and traffic and flight operations were disrupted. CM Rekha Gupta travelled to Majnu Ka Tilla in order to assess the circumstances and determine areas at risk of flooding. During her inspection, she informed the media that waterlogging is an issue in many parts of Delhi. Delhi is in terrible shape and needs to be improved right away. The situation is concerning,and all departments and agencies need to start addressing areas that are vulnerable to waterlogging as soon as they can. Wherever there is a waterlogging problem, we have instructed our officers and departments to act right away.

The waterlogging was addressed by PWD minister Parvesh Verma, who wrote on X, “Today, water stagnated in some quantity at many places in Delhi due to unseasonal record rainfall.” Beginning at 5:30 am, I went to a lot of places to evaluate the situation. All four of the pumps were operational when I arrived at Minto Bridge, and the operator was on duty.I was asked to fix a burst pipe. He stated that because of the monsoon, PWD, MCD, DJB, NDMC, and IFC are constantly cleaning the drains.

Most areas of the city experienced moderate to heavy rainfall as a result of the storm,which caused waterlogging.IMD data shows that Safdarjung, Delhi’s weather base station, received 77mm of rain in just six hours, from 2:30 to 8:30 am.During that time, measurements were made at Palam (45.6 mm), Ridge (59.2 mm), Lodhi Road (78 mm), Pragati Maidan and Pitampura (71.5 mm), Ayanagar (39.4 mm), Pusa (50 mm), Jaffarpur (67.5 mm), and Najafgarh (40 mm).

Furthermore, the IMD reports that at 5:10 am,a maximum wind speed of 80 km/h was recorded in the city at Safdarjung. At 5:30 am, a top speed of 78 km/h was then noted at Pragati Maidan. At 5:19 am, it was 74 km/h at Palam, an IMD official said.
