Could gaming be the BIG MIDDLE-EASTERN DREAM for the world? Abu Dhabi has decided to do something offbeat that the coming generation of digital-natives will thank the Digital Gods for.

Abu Dhabi is ready to surprise the gaming world by announcing the world’s first island dedicated to esports. Spearheaded by True Gamers, this project involves a huge investment of $280 million and is expected to become a $1 billion venture upon completion. This island will feature a luxury hotel, global tournament arenas, beachfront gaming resorts, training facilities, and content creation spaces.

The Middle East has always positioned itself as a committed esports hub and this new move aligns with the vision. According to BCG, over 60% of the region’s population are gamers, contributing to one of the highest mobile gaming app download rates globally. 

India’s Gaming Industry: A Rapid Growth

Meanwhile, India’s gaming industry is one of the foremost in terms of growth and competition too. In 2024, the gaming sector in India witnessed a 20% surge in revenue, reaching $3.8 billion. With this rate, by FN29, the industry will surpass $9.2 billion, maintaining a compound annual growth (CAGR) of 20%. Indian gamers are getting more and more committed, averaging 13 hours of gameplay per week- a 30% increase from the previous year. 

The gaming industry in India is further boosted by significant investments. Apart from private investments and tournaments, The Indian Government too has launched various grants, subsidies and coaching to boost the gaming industry from development to user base as well. It will be interesting to see how India collaborates with the Middle East in the gaming industry in the near future because the future seems extremely promising.
