In Hyderabad, on 18 July 2025, as part of an effort to address the increasing issue of inter-gang rivalries within the city, Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, Director General and Commissioner of Police and Additional District Magistrate (Executive), Hyderabad, conducted an Executive Court hearing at Kotwal House, Purani Haveli.
The government’s sitting was directed towards addressing the increasing violence caused by tensions between various local criminal gangs.
As per the official Hyderabad City Police report published through their verified X (previously Twitter) account, the Executive Court’s main agenda was to address the escalating rivalries among eight various gangs that are active in Hyderabad’s South, South East, and South West Zones.
The gangs have allegedly been engaging in progressively violent clashes over the past few months.
Throughout the course of the session, Station House Officers (SHOs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) from the relevant districts lodged serious reports. The reports revealed a serious trend of gangsterism crime, i.e., murders and attempted murders, which have been directly associated with a gangsterism rivalry among these criminal gangs.
All of the respondents, being former members or affiliates of the gangs in question, were summoned to appear before the court and were presented a chance to be heard individually.
In the process, the authorities issued unequivocal and stern admonitions to the respondents. They were explicitly warned to refrain from their violent fighting with one another and were urged to settle any outstanding issues peacefully, ideally through the mediation of the village elders.
Commissioner Anand made it quite clear that any more disturbances to public peace would be dealt with sternly. He showed that the perpetrators, if apprehended engaging in more gang warfare, could be subject to stringent legal actions, including eviction from Hyderabad and being bound over under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
Reiterating their abiding commitment, the Hyderabad City Police ended the session by reaffirming their ongoing commitment to facilitating public order and safety through preventive and proactive steps.
