Maha Shivratri is widely recognized as the occasion marking the union of Shiva and Parvati. According to the Puranas, Maa Parvati undertook rigorous penance to earn Shiva’s love. It is widely believed that Shiva and Parvati were wed at the Triyuginarayan Temple during the Satya Yuga. This marriage was a divine occasion, attended by deities, sages, and celestial entities.
Numerous devotees flock to temples to offer their prayers, and each temple is adorned with exquisite decorations in honor of Mahashivratri. It is noteworthy that fasting during this festival is believed to cleanse both the body and mind, while also heightening spiritual awareness. Moreover, fasting on Shivratri is said to improve focus during prayers and meditation, thereby deepening one’s connection with Lord Shiva. It is essential for those observing the fast to rise early, take a bath, and don clean attire on the day of the fast. Subsequently, devotees should remember to worship Lord Shiva with Panchamrit, a sacred blend of milk, honey, curd, ghee, and sugar, and to offer Bel leaves, which hold significant auspiciousness in Shiva Puja.
