President Trump was given a highly ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle by King Charles III. Melania Trump caught attention with her hat. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced about £150 billion in investment from US firms. Trump described the visit as “one of the highest honours of life.” Protests accompanied the visit. Starmer appears to have accepted the visit as a diplomatic opportunity.
President Donald J Trump called the US-UK bond “Priceless, irreplaceable, and unbreakable.” He praised King Charles, describing the invitation and ceremonies as “one of the highest honours of my life.” King Charles, in his speech, referred to George Washington and King George III, remarking neither could have imagined how far today’s US-UK friendship would reach.
The visit estimated that the UK government has about £150 billion of inward investment from US firms. Deals include multiple technologies, civil nuclear, and AI-sector pledges. Companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Blackstone are reported to have made large investment commitments. At a press conference at Chequers, Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a technology partnership covering areas like AI and nuclear power.
Trump said Vladimir Putin has “let him down.” He criticised other countries still buying Russian oil, saying the lower oil price would hurt Moscow. There was disagreement between Trump and Starmer. Starmer supports recognising the Palestinian state, whereas Trump disagreed with recognising Palestine at this point. Both leaders avoided getting deeply into public statements.
Experts say Starmer seems to have used the visit to try to reap economic benefits while managing the optics of hosting Trump. The UK government rolled out a full state formal ceremony, military honours, royal banquets, etc. These were intended to project continuity and strength of alliance. Trump, in remarks, expressed delight over the grand welcome and hosting.
The remainder of Epstein has featured heavily. Protestors used images, projections, and banners tying Trump to Epstein that were projected on the Windsor Castle walls. Later, four individuals were arrested in connection with the projection. There was also a viral moment when Trump reportedly walked ahead of King Charles III during a Royal event in Windsor. That was called out as a breach of expectations protocol.
Trump and Melania had to switch helicopters when leaving the UK due to a “hydraulic issue,” delaying arrival at the final airport. It became one of the incidents in press coverage. Overall, the visit combined spectacle with diplomacy; many saw it as the UK trying to emphasise the US-UK “special relationship” while managing controversies.
