PM Modi Launches ₹5,400 Crore Projects, Flags Suzuki EV

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat for a two-day visit on August 25, 2025, commencing the inauguration and laying of multiple development projects valued at over ₹5,400 crore. These initiatives cover infrastructure, energy, transport, and urban development, representing the government’s renewed drive for the fast growth of the state.

    Key Highlights of the Visit:

During his short yet high-profile stay at Ahmedabad, PM Modi flagged off Suzuki’s first global electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, from the Motera Stadium. This is a significant milestone towards electric mobility in India and an example of India’s increasing potential in innovating for global automotive solutions.

PM Modi hailed the launch, adding that India’s shift to clean energy and electric vehicles will not only cut down on fossil fuel reliance but also create new opportunities for manufacturing and employment.

In fact, today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also laid the foundation and inaugurated projects related to railways, roads, energy, and urban development, which will help strengthen and improve connectivity and physical infrastructure for a newer, greener India that can urbanise sustainably in the increasingly developed Gujarat.

Development Projects of Over ₹5,400 Crore:

Among the big-ticket announcements, the projects would include:

    • Railway upgrades and new routes, aimed at reducing travel time and improving logistics for the industries.

    • Expansion works of roads and highways to improve connectivity across important districts.

    • Energy and renewable sources of power aiming at clean and sustainable generation.

    • Urban development projects in terms of housing and civic facilities to provide for the ever-growing urban population.

The Prime Minister stated that these investments would not only enhance the living standards of the people but would also provide employment opportunities and generate a flow of industries to set up in Gujarat.

    GST Reform “Gift by Diwali”

PM Modi, while addressing citizens in Ahmedabad, proclaimed that a heavy reform in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be discussed before Diwali; however, he did not share any details. The Prime Minister termed the announcements a “festival gift” for trade and the layman. He added that the forthcoming reforms would further simplify the system and ease the burden, thereby entering the business-friendly category.

This announcement has become the talk of the town across the nation, and speculation is rife that the reform may either rationalise tax slabs or give a boost to SMEs.

A Step towards India’s Development Vision

During the ceremony, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel appreciated the initiatives, calling them “a new chapter in the development journey of Gujarat.” He stated that these projects in energy, transport, and urban infrastructure will further strengthen Gujarat as the growth engine of India.

In his address, PM Modi expounded on how these projects resonate with the greater vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” a roadmap for making India a developed nation by the 100th year of its independence. PM Modi stated that infrastructure, clean energy, and industrial growth are the pillars of this long-term vision.

The stake of Suzuki’s first global electric SUV unveiled from Ahmedabad becomes particularly noteworthy as it places India at the centre of global EV manufacturing. This is a landmark achievement for India’s Make in India program, thus making Gujarat the epicentre of the automobile and clean energy industries.

Similarly, the assurance given with respect to GST reform in the coming weeks was welcomed by the industry bodies and business leaders as something that might provide much-needed thrust to economic growth.
