On 31st August, Big Hit Music, now known as Hybe Labels, published a statement regarding the dating rumours surrounding BTS member Jimin, regarding his personal life after a TikTok video went viral from Song Da Eun’s profile. In the press release, they confirmed their dating history and asked the fans to refrain from making any unnecessary conjecture about the artist’s private life that might be damaging or hurtful to him.
“Due to the proliferation of speculative reports and false rumours surrounding the artist’s private life, we had no choice but to release a statement on the bare minimum of the facts…. The artist had a past relationship with the other party, which was several years before, and they are not currently dating.”
The now-deleted TikTok video showed Jimin being recorded in an elevator of an apartment complex, supposedly by Song Da Eun, who is heard giggling after pretending to scare Jimin, after which they both walk out together, and the video ends. Many fans have alleged that Jimin might have visited Song’s apartment, while many lashed out at Song for posting the video without the artist’s consent, and many of them did not take it kindly.
Due to the ongoing fiasco, Song had to suffer defamation, slander, and online attacks from many fans, which allegedly began when she posted photos and videos that hinted at a probable romantic involvement with the song artist.
The attacks became so severe that she had to make legal statements, including suing one of the fans who was constantly harassing her by giving her personal threats. Through her social media, she warned the harasser by calling out her name and warning her of dire legal consequences if she did not refrain from her actions.
The deleted photos included a picture of herself wearing a BTS merchandise present in the location presumed to be near Jimin’s address, and earphones engraved with their names, which only made the suspicions stronger.
With the press release, it might be hoped that the rumours will rest and one thing that has been officially confirmed is that both of the artists were once romantically involved and the fact that they are not currently together anymore. This whole debacle highlights the increasing vulnerabilities and invasion of privacy surrounding the celebrities’ personal lives.
