The latest Israeli strike on a market in Gaza has thrown civilians into turmoil and led to global outrage against Israel.
The strikes show how little the state of Israel cares about the lives of civilians in Gaza and demonstrate clearly that Israel as a nation holds no shame in breaking innumerable international laws. They get away scot free because big brother America is constantly there to shield them in this mass dissemination of violence, which they claim is targeted at militant forces while actually hitting innocent civilians who were at a market trying to survive the chaos of life on the strip.
On 26th June 2025, Israeli forces conducted an air strike on a gas market in central Gaza where civilians were known to commonly go to purchase cooking fuel. The market was hit by air launched missiles which were reportedly fired from drones and fighter jets with no prior warnings issued to any of the civilians living or present in the area.
The Israeli military has claimed that it aimed to strike Hamas operatives, however no militant presence had ever been confirmed at the location of the strike and instead 18 civilian deaths were witnessed at the market due to the strikes.
What we have witnessed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas is the clear lack of any accountability from the side of Israel in following any international laws. This attack, along with the recent attack on citizens coming to get humanitarian aid from camps, sends a clear message to the world. The Israeli government wants to eradicate any sources of life and any help the civilians can get. They started by cutting the water and food by halting humanitarian aid and are now getting bold by even striking at markets which never had any military presence.
International law is very clear about the protection of civilians and civilian architecture and we can see how easily Israel chooses to ignore these laws. These attacks have even been compared to genocide by leaders of various countries, which the Israeli government strongly opposes. However, the fact cannot be forgotten that the Israeli government has chosen to actively break international law and has weaponised the bare necessities of the civilians living in Gaza by killing anyone trying to survive by either going to markets or trying to get humanitarian aid near UN sanctioned aid camps.
All this to say unless world leaders and the UN decide to step up and pressure Israel to adhere to a ceasefire, the situation in Gaza could worsen to even conditions as bad as we saw during the Holocaust. To the Palestinians, the Gaza Strip remains an open wall prison where they can be killed at any second. This is not to say that the Hamas are to be hailed or to be protected. The international terrorist organisation that is Hamas has committed several human rights violations of their own, both targeted at Israeli citizens as well as their own people. Overall there is no good side and there is no bad. There are no winners to war except the companies that profit from war and the warmongering countries who choose to be controlled by these companies. One thing is for sure, the losers of war are always the civilians, the fathers, the brothers, the husbands, the mothers, the sisters, the wives and the children of all those who fall due to this war.
