Fiji Prime Minister Begins Official Diplomatic Visit To India

August 25, 2025, marks the 2nd out of the 3 day visit by Sitiveni Rabuka, the Prime Minister of Fiji, in India. The formal interaction has invited a boost in the relations between the two countries regarding defence cooperation. This is his first-ever visit to India as the Prime Minister of the South Pacific Nation.

Day 1 focused more on his welcome to the country, with Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar welcoming him and his wife, Suluweti Tuiloma. Whereas Day 2 involved Prime Minister Modi addressing his visit and the aims that would further enhance the country’s healthcare, agriculture, defence, security, technology, and defence systems, especially maritime.

The two leaders are expected to sign a comprehensive action plan to boost cooperation. Some key pointers from the

Defence and Maritime Security: Given Fiji’s strategic location in the Indo-Pacific, both countries aim to enhance their overall defence sector, specifically India’s.

Trade and Investment: Increase in trade and investment opportunities in tourism, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy.

Healthcare Collaboration: Discussions are expected on India’s support in building Fiji’s public health infrastructure and capacity building.
