The US President Donald Trump has asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at Turkey without waiting for a ceasefire agreement. Putin had expressed his desire to meet and hold talks with Zelenskyy in a meeting to be held at Istanbul on May 15. Zelenskyy has carefully expressed acceptance to the face to face meeting.
Zelenskyy quoted on X stating that he would be waiting for Putin in Turkiye but he also anticipates that the full and prolonged ceasefire come into rule as early as possible. The proposal for the 30 day ceasefire was put forward by European leaders who urged while their visit to Kyiv that Putin accepts it without condition. Zelenskyy agrees to meet Putin as soon as ceasefire comes in operation. However, Trump has asked Zelenskyy to not wait for the ceasefire and meet Putin at the earliest. President Putin doesn’t agree to ceasefire but rather wants immediate talks with Zelenskyy.
Trump has asked to bring an immediate negotiation to bloodbath and urged both the Presidents meet immediately tweeting on X. Several times on the X platform, Trump has announced himself as a peacemaker.
A similar tweet was shared by Trump on X on 10th May, 2025 stating the President has mediated Indo – Pak ceasefire after long night of talks. He praised both the nation for using intelligence and common sense agreeing to a ceasefire. Following a deadly attack on a tourist centre at Pahalgam that killed 26 innocent civilian men by the Resistance font, a proxy group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Indian joint forces targetted terrorist outlets of Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir on 7th May in a precision strike ‘ Operation Sindhoor’. The conflict escalated when Pakistan targeted civilian infrastructure and military facilities of Indo- Pak boder states. Though all missiles were thwarted by India’s air defence system, heavy shelling at Poonch had caused casualties in India. A further anticipation of escalation in the conflict made Trump to mediate.

The invasion has caused the deadliest war in Europe in the contemporary times. The war has caused great damage to more nations in terms of men and resources. The war has increased supply chain issues along with increased inflation and energy insecurity across borders.Many leaders have tried for mediation with failed results.
