Harshal Patel took 4 Wickets to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 154 runs. Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis took the responsibility of the chase as Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad won their first ever encounter against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.

After electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad got the wicket of Shaik Rasheed on the first ball of the match itself. Mohammad Shami took his wicket as Abhishek Sharma completed the catch at the first slip. Chennai Super Kings got in more trouble when Sam Curran and Ayush Mhatre got out in 5th & 6th over respectively. Mhatre played another cameo of 30 runs which included 6 fours.
It was a good debut for former MI batter Dewald Brevis, who scored 42 runs which included 1 four and 4 gigantic sixes; thus, he became the highest scorer for the team. However, lack of support from other end hampered Chennai’s Innings. Deepak Hooda smashed 22 runs but his wicket meaning Chennai getting all out for 154 in 19.5 overs.
Sunrisers got an early jolt in the chase when Abhishek Sharma got out for a 2-ball duck to Khaleel Ahmed in the first over itself. Sunrisers were losing wickets from one end where Travis Head got out for 19 whereas, Heinrich Klassen got out cheaply for 7 runs.
Ishan Kishan on one end, continued scoring runs as he amassed 44 runs in 34 balls which included 5 fours and a six. However, his wicket brought SRH back in Pressure. But it was the talented Sri Lankan All-Rounder Kamindu Mendis, who took the responsibility along with Nitish Kumar Reddy to take Sunrisers Hyderabad over the line. Mendis scored 32 runs in which he smashed 3 fours.

Chennai Super Kings are now in deep trouble as the are at 10th position with 7 losses as they need to win all of their remaining games to make it to 14 points. Their qualification chances now depend on results of other matches. Regarding Sunrisers Hyderabad, they still need to win all of their remaining games to make it to 16 points and have a chance to make it to playoffs.
