Iga Swiatek has added another milestone to her career, achieving it on Tuesday night (IST time), as she captured her first title in Cincinnati with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jasmine Paolini in the final. The victory marked her 24th career singles title on the Hologic WTA Tour and her 11th at the WTA 1000 level.

The Paolini star, who lifted the Wimbledon trophy last month, collected her second title of the season and will move past Coco Gauff in the rankings to take the No.2 seed position at the upcoming US Open.

Swiatek was tested early by Paolini, who raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. From there, Swiatek turned the momentum around, stringing together four straight games and eventually closing the set 7-5. The second set saw five service breaks, but Swiatek’s flawless record on break-point chances, as she converted six out of six, allowed her to seal the match in 1 hour, 49 minutes.

The win completed a dominant week in which Swiatek did not drop a set, with notable victories over Top 10 opponents Elena Rybakina in the semifinals and Paolini in the championship match. She also extended her record to 105-0 in WTA 1000 events when winning the first set.

Paolini, who was appearing in her recorded wins over Babora Krejikova and Gauff during her run in Cincinnati. Despite the loss, she will rise to a career-high ranking of No.8, earning a top-eight seed for the US Open.
