In one of the most nail-biting encounters of the Hundred 2025 season so far,
Southern Brave edged out Manchester Originals by just 1 wicket in a dramatic finish at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. Chasing 132, Brave’s innings wobbled throughout, but a calm head from the lower order saw them scrape through with just one ball to spare.

The Originals had looked in control for most of the game, thanks to a fluent 60 from
Phil Salt, who anchored their innings beautifully. His strokeplay, especially against
the seamers, was a treat for the packed Old Trafford crowd. The Originals finished
with 131 for 4 in their 100 balls, a total that appeared defendable given the
conditions.

But Southern Brave, known for their depth and composure, clawed their way back
into the contest despite early setbacks. With the top order faltering, it was Craig
Overton and No. 11 Reece Topley, who pulled off a last-minute heist. Overton’s
calculated risk-taking and Topley’s boundary off the penultimate ball sealed an
incredible 1-wicket victory for the visitors.

The match also marked a special moment.
At age 43, Anderson defied both time and expectation by donning the Originals’
Jersey for his first-ever appearance in The Hundred. Though he finished wicketless
and was slightly on the expensive side, his presence on the field was met with
thunderous applause. The veteran fast bowler, who last played white-ball cricket for
England back in 2015 looked fit, focused, and genuinely thrilled to be part of the
action.

Speaking after the match, Anderson said, “I’ve missed the buzz of these packed
stadiums in shorter formats. It’s a different energy, but I’m enjoying every moment.
I’ve worked hard to stay in shape—age is just a number for me if you’ve still got the
love for the game.”

His commitment to fitness and longevity is inspirational for young aspiring players
worldwide. Even as he adapts to the high-octane pace of The Hundred, Anderson
continues to show that class truly is permanent.

For Southern Brave, the narrow win gives them early momentum in the tournament.
For Manchester Originals, it’s a tough pill to swallow, but the return of a legend like
Anderson gives them plenty to be proud of.
