India’s GSAT-20 satellite, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) commercial arm, New Space India Limited (NSIL), is set for launch on November 19, 2024. Marking the first-ever collaboration between SpaceX and ISRO, this mission highlights India’s growing presence in global space technology and SpaceX’s reputation for reliable and cost-effective satellite launches.
The GSAT-20 is an advanced Ka-band communication satellite designed to transform India’s broadband connectivity and in-flight communication. Weighing 4,700 kg, it will be launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida. With groundbreaking multi-beam technology, the satellite features 32 user beams that optimize bandwidth efficiency and system throughput, delivering up to 48 Gbps speeds. Its 14-year mission life will provide a sustained boost to India’s digital infrastructure, including extending internet access to remote and underserved regions.
