A New Chapter Begins: Ferrari’s First Electric Vehicle to Break Cover Soon
Ferrari, a name that has long roared with V8s and V12s, is about to enter a whole new era- one that hums quietly but powerfully. The renowned Italian carmaker will make a significant change in its 77-year history on October 9, 2025, when it unveils its first all-electric vehicle at its Capital Markets Day in Maranello, as expected.
Insiders and recent shareholder meetings also hint that it may be called the Ferrari Elettrica—simple, yes, but appropriate—even though the name hasn’t been formally confirmed. In Italian, “Elettrica” simply means “electric,” and for Ferrari, it represents a daring step into the future. But don’t expect this to be just another EV.
Ferrari wants you to experience the thrill. The business has submitted patent applications that allude to something genuinely original, such as a fake gearshift and adjustable engine noises. Consider it a means of maintaining the excitement without the conventional rumble of a combustion engine. Drivers may have the option of “historical,” “modern,” or even “futuristic” sounds, such as those influenced by Ferrari’s illustrious engine history. Indeed, even if the sound is coming from speakers, you might still hear the echoes of a Ferrari V12.
The company has also disclosed that the EV will probably have all-wheel drive, a lower profile, and a tone of smart technology, such as active suspension and rear-wheel steering, all of which are designed to ensure that it drives like a real Ferrari.
According to prototype sightings, photographed by Derek Cornelissen, the test vehicle conceals its true identity by donning a Maserati body and fake exhausts, which is the epitome of Ferrari secrecy.
In 2025, six new Ferrari models—including hybrid and pure combustion models—will go on sale, including this electric one. Ferrari is adopting a more balanced approach, whereas other automakers are fully embracing electric vehicles. CEO Benedetto Vigna reaffirmed during the shareholders’ meeting that Ferrari would continue to make petrol, hybrid and fully electric cars. “Indeed, in line with our strategy, we continue to invest in all three powertrains … to offer our clients maximum freedom of choice,” he said.
Ferrari has made significant behind-the-scenes investments in its future. It just unveiled a brand-new, state-of-the-art “e-building” in Maranello where it will manufacture electric motors, powertrain parts, and other things internally. This preserves, even in the era of electric vehicles, Ferrari’s legacy of handcrafted excellence.
