On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership following the Pahalgam attack, pointing to a number of retaliatory actions that included Operation Sindoor and the termination of the Indus Waters Treaty. Speaking at a press conference in the nation’s capital, Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, called the events a “paradigm shift” in India’s strategic approach.
“This accomplishment is remarkable. It’s Naya Bharat. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he stated, “This is the first time a country has invaded deep within a nuclear-armed nation to destroy terror infrastructure” and demolished all nine Pakistani terror camps where terrorists planned significant assaults on India, including the 26/11 and Pulwama attacks, as well as the hijacking of IC 814. We hit the terrorists exactly where they were, so our targets were exact,” Patra said. He went on to say, “Pakistan could never have imagined, even in its dreams, that India would infiltrate 100 km inside the international border” of the assault on the Bahawalpur headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The 2001 Parliament attacks and Pulwama in 2019 are just two of the high-profile terror attacks in India that Jaish has been connected to.
The government’s decision to discontinue the Treaty on the Indus Waters and bilateral trade relations with Islamabad, Patra added in his remarks, signified a strategic realignment. “Prime Minister Modi has made a strong statement by halting the flow of both water and blood. These actions are intended to structurally weaken Pakistan’s economy; they are not merely symbolic,” he stated. Despite tumultuous relations between the two countries, the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, mediated by the World Bank, has endured for a long time. Patra pointed out that its provisions had not been changed by succeeding governments. The Indus Water Agreement was ignored for more than 50 years. Now, Prime Minister Modi has made a historic choice that will have an immediate effect on Pakistan’s GDP, he said.
